Hi! I’m Jordan.
I’m a conductor, a teacher, a researcher, and a writer.
I love the pursuit of meaning through music. I believe music changes lives, and I love being a part of that process from the first tuning note to the end of the finale.
In a word, I love Rehearsal.
If concerts are the world’s best desserts, then rehearsal is the main course.
Rehearsals fascinate me. I love leading rehearsals, and I love visiting the rehearsals of the world’s best conductors, the youngest developing teachers, and everyone in between.
That’s why I founded the Art of Rehearsal. The Art of Rehearsal is two things:
a professional coaching practice for musicians - see below:
a monthly newsletter celebrating the process in all its forms - see below.
I am currently at capacity and cannot accept new clients at this time. Please send me a message to be added to the waitlist. Please include “Art of Rehearsal” in the subject line.
Coaching Practice
The Art of Rehearsal is a professional coaching practice for conductors and chamber ensemble musicians. I provide tailored, targeted advice drawing upon a wealth of personal experience on the podium, experience as a professor and teacher, research (my own and the literature), and the latest in cognitive science and organizational psychology to help you get the most out of your rehearsals. I’ve developed over 30 custom interventions and counting, each backed by cognitive science and developed to address the specific needs of clients from across the US and across the globe as they work to make the very most of every musical moment.
I cover rehearsal from each dimension:
Applications for orchestral, choral, operatic, and wind conductors as well as chamber musicians
Remedies for everyone from string quartet members to professional conductors to middle school directors
Addressing musical, technical, analytical, emotional, social, pedagogical, intellectual, and procedural issues that arise in rehearsal
I am currently at capacity and cannot accept new clients at this time. I am accepting a limited number of free initial consultations.
Please send me a message to be added to the waitlist or to schedule a free consultation. Please include “Art of Rehearsal” in the subject line.
Monthly Newsletter
The Art of Rehearsal is also a newsletter for working musicians who have or share responsibility for leadership in a rehearsal, including everyone from conductors, to concertmasters, to choristers, to clarinets, to quartets.
Launching in August 2024.
This newsletter is provided free of charge as a service to the music community that I love and that has loved me. If you find it useful, please consider paying what you can or subscribing. More importantly, consider letting me know what was helpful and what could use some work. Lastly, my biggest goal is to reach as many musicians as possible with useful information. If you find something useful, please send colleagues to signup at artofrehearsal.com/sub. Thank you!
