Jordan will speak to the Percussion Pedagogy class at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Percussionists, like all musicians, find themselves in a variety of positions of musical leaders as band and orchestra directors, conductors, church music directors, and the list goes on. In this talk, percussion students will explore the following topics:

• “Invisible” skills and concepts that winds, strings, and vocalists take for granted from an early age, but which percussionists must learn and internalize.

• Uniquely strong skills that the percussionist brings to a large mixed ensemble setting.

• How to adapt existing knowledge and skills to apply to other musical contexts.
